Deal of life
Story of a soldier who could not get his love forever.
The captain looked at his sword with longing. Then looked at the uniform hanging on the peg which was reminiscing the war days. Sitting in his room, he picked up the letter which he had just received. The same letter had left a lasting impression on him. He read the concern of the letter once more which had changed the world of his hopes.
"I am proud of the honor you have bestowed upon me by offering me to be your wife.
I am deeply shocked to disappoint you and reply in the negative. But the only reason for this refusal is the difference between our ages.
I like you very much. But because of this difference, I suspect that our marriage will not be successful. I hope you will appreciate my honesty."
The captain took a deep breath and bowed his head. Of course, there was a big difference in their ages. But he was strong. He had wealth and status. Can't all this and then his true love and openness make their marriage successful? Can't remove the gap of years?
Captain was a practical man. In the battle, he had earned a name for his quick decision and promptness. He decided that he would personally meet her once and have a verbal conversation. The question of age was irrelevant in his eyes.
Within two hours, he was on his way to the ground to win the bet of his life. Theodora was standing in the portico of her house, enjoying the summer evening and twilight when the captain arrived.
Theodora welcomed him with a smile without hesitation. When the Captain was talking to her standing on the lower stairs, the difference in their ages was not felt.
He was a young man with tall stature, bright eyes, and black hair. Theodora had set the initial destinations of her youth.
She said softly.
"I sent the letter, didn't expect you to come."
"I got the letter." replied the captain.
"And that's what I came for."
Theodora smiled at his simplicity. She loved him heartily.
“There is a lot of difference between your age and mine. Captain, it is better if you don’t ask me again. I have written everything in the letter,” she said softly.
The Captain felt his longings bleed into the redness of the distant twilight. This gap of a few years had become a huge obstacle between him and her happiness.
Theodora pleaded with the captain.
"Don't take my words badly Captain! Later on, you will realize that what I have said is right. If
we get married, after a few days, after a few years,
Maybe one of us may want to sit near furnaces and read novels, feel the need for an oil massage for knee pain, or prefer to live a quiet life.
And the other one is fond of dance parties, is fond of lunch and dinner, is fond of clubs and theatre. So what will happen in such a situation?
No, my friend, the difference between our ages is the same as in the months of January and May, or less so, in the months of October and June."
“But Theodora, I will do whatever you want. If you….” Theodora interrupted,
“You say you can. Please don't talk about this topic anymore.”
The captain had lost his bet. When he came to his room the next evening, he started preparing to go to some dinner. While changing the dress, he thought that Theodora had told the truth because he was still nineteen years old and Theodora was twenty-eight years old.
